Water and Gas
Safety Valves (WAGS)

In the rural areas some
homeowners may notice a rotten egg smell when opening the hot
water faucet. This problem can be corrected. The most common cause
is hydrogen sulphide associated with the presence of iron and
iron bacteria in the cold water supply. Other causes are: algae
growth if a dugout well is the usual source of the cold water
supply, uncovered wells too close to run-off water or a septic
field and/or old water pipes. For treatment contact a qualified
technician.
The best advice that we can offer is that you read the manufacturer's
installation and maintenance instructions before performing any
service, alteration or repair to ensure that you are conforming
to all requirements set out in the instructions.
Can anything be done to prevent water damage that typically
occurs when a water heater leaks?
Absolutely, the installation of a Water And Gas Safety (WAGS)
valve can prevent thousands of dollars of damage, hours of time
spent dealing with various Contractors, Insurance Companies, not
to mention the mess and potential for mould. The WAGS valve is
so good it comes with $1000.00 US insurance protection in the
event the valve fails to protect the home and its furnishings.
Custom Vac has not had one water heater fitted with a WAGS Valve
result in damage to the structure or furnishings since introducing
the product in 2003. Customer testimonials and referrals are always
available upon request.

Custom Vac offers various water heaters with warranties ranging
from 8 to 25 years on the tank (leakage) and 2 to 5 years on parts
and some tanks have limited lifetime warranties (guaranteed not
to leak as long as you own your home). Various thicknesses of
fibreglass or CFC free foam insulation have dramatically decreased
stand by losses. Maintenance and cleaning is minimized with the
introduction of self-cleaning dip tubes and larger anode rods
means better longer tank life, better performance and less corrosion.
Regardless of what type of water heater, gas, electric or oil,
Custom Vac can provide you with the proper sized one to suit your
family's needs. For further information use the hyperlinks we
