Duct Cleaning Technician

Position Summary:

The Duct Cleaning Technician is responsible for cleaning of all types of Residential, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration equipment.

Authority:

The Duct Cleaning Technician derives authority from and is directly responsible to the Owners. The Duct Cleaning Technician will, from time to time, be directly responsible for a General Helper on the job.

Hours:

Office is open at 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The normal work day is from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Calls are scheduled as necessary, with the emphasis on normal working hours. As with any service business, however, after hours calls and extended work days are common.

Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Trade School, High School Vocational or equivalent At least five years HVACR field experience Experience in HVACR Installation and Maintenance

Responsibilities and Duties:

The major function of the Duct Cleaning Technician is to perform all duties assigned to him/her and to assist in the training of General Helpers. The Duct Cleaning Technician must constantly seek and attain more knowledge in the practical and technical phases of the business. In addition, further knowledge in the entrepreneurship side and operations phases of the business will enable a Duct Cleaning Technician to broaden and better understand the Company and areas of operations (Apprenticeship, Service Technician, Sales, Services Manager, etc.).

The Duct Cleaning Technician is directly responsible for the following:

  1. His/her own deportment on the job.
  2. To complete all work assignments in a safe, neat and professional manner to the best of your ability.
  3. Adhering to proper procedures in use of paper work (purchase orders, time cards, work orders, customer equipment information, warranty return tags, etc.).
  4. Coordination with the Owners in matters that the Duct Cleaning Technician feels are beyond his/her authority or ability to handle.
  5. Be courteous, clean and neat in uniform at all times.
  6. Assist General Helpers and othes in any way possible and be alert in learning new and better procedures of cleaning and maintenance work.
  7. Assign job duties as needed and assign other responsibilities and delegate authority as needed to ensure job speed, quality and the completion date.
  8. Attend both in-house and outside training seminars and courses to remain current with technology. As market conditions change, so must you.
  9. Conduct yourself at all times to reflect a good public image, after all you are not just a Duct Cleaning Technician, you are a Senior Statesman for the Company.
  10. To be responsible for the care of assigned Company vehicles, tools, equipment and materials. All vehicles must be maintained in good appearance and mechnical condition. Report any problems (lost or damaged tools, poor brakes, mirrors, etc.) in writing to the office immediately.
  11. Be observant, read, understand and respect all Company rules, policies and procedures.
  12. To report to the office upon completion of job assignments, and at the beginning and end of each day. Ensure that all parts and materials required to complete a job have been ordered and picked up.
  13. To maintain a truck stock of repair parts, and restock those parts used.
  14. To ensure that the office is given notice when you may require a day off for funerals, doctors, etc.
  15. To be available for after hours emergency service as requested, carry a pager and from time to time take cellular calls.
  16. To maintain a clean, neat and tidy shop. A messy shop, truck, or job site is not only unsafe, it is also not productive.
  17. Report all accidents of any kind to the office the same day.
  18. To keep records, invoice and/or collect payments from customers, fill out warranty information and prepare reports from time to time.
  19. Gather proper materials and equipment before leaving the shop.
  20. Make sure components installed by us do not interfere with structures of building or other Trades work. Ensure that all codes are adhered to (under no circumstances shall any codes be ignored or building structures be weakened to ease installation).
  21. Notify the office immediately of problems encountered on the job, or if a delay or cancellation results in an increase of unrecoverable costs.
  22. Check equipment for valid warranty dates, extended labour warranties or planned service agreements.
  23. Keep dissatisfied customers confident in both yourself and the Company's abilities to handle their problems satisfactorily.
  24. Communicate verbally with customers and be able to address their questions, concerns, etc.
  25. Maintain a positive mental attitude.
  26. Increase your sales talents.
  27. Common sense.
  28. Be constantly alert for new business leads.
  29. Follow up on service agreement leads, sales, system service, etc.
  30. Coordinate with the Owners to offer suggestions regarding new ideas (programs, inactive customers, survey, newsletters, etc.).
  31. Responsible for the distribution of all marketing materials, equipment brochures, business cards, promotional materials, and placing of equipment stickers with Company logo and phone numbers on each appliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Instruct the General Helper in proper installation and use of tools and equipment.
  • Answer the General Helper's questions to the best of your knowledge; when in doubt, ask someone else who can help.
  • Give General Helpers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience.
  • See that the General Helper, as well as self, attends all training programs offered by the Company and Manufacturers.
  • When minor problems arise on the job site, show leadership qualities and make decisions for yourself. Sometimes, the General Helper will need to know how to deal with problems of a similar fashion. Your leadership will instill this trait.
  • Encourage the General Helper at every step of the way, but don't feel that if he/she makes a mistake that you have to bite your tongue. Just try to be positive, the way you would like to be communicated with.
